Kuanon is a river that flows in eastern Uttar Pradesh. District Basti is situated on the bank of this river. River has its own historical and geographical importance, however in recent times and rapid development, river has become polluted. Though there are many reasons for its pollution, commercial and industrial wastes play a major role in it.
People of Basti have tried many times to get rid of these pollutants through their various efforts. People have also launched and organized some protests, filed complaints and RTIs earlier as well on this issue.
One concerned citizen of Basti District Mr. Dilshad Hasan Khan fought for this river through his RTI applications and memorandums but still there is no significant change in the situation.
In view of all these things, it was decided during a meeting that a campaign named 'KUANAON BACHAO ABHIYAAN' will be launched by people.
Initially during a meeting on 20 August 2012 at Avas Vikas Colony Basti, Mission Bhartiyam and Basti Vikas Samiti jointly announced the launch of campaign.
This campaign will be from the side of people and organizations. Mission Bhartiyam & Basti Vikas Samiti invited all such organizations and individuals who want to work on this issue. This initiative will be a joint initiative by all.
